Creating Your Digital Twin: A Guide to Using frontline.io Fast Track Feature

Create your own Digital Twin quickly by uploading CAD files to frontline.io.

Updated over a week ago

The new Fast Track feature on frontline.io allows you to quickly create your own Digital Twin by uploading CAD files. Follow these user-friendly steps to get started:

Step 1: Select "Create a new item" and choose "Digital Twin"

When you log in to frontline.io, create a new or select the relevant project. In the Knowledge Base of the project, locate the "Create new item" button and click on it. From the options presented, choose "Digital Twin" to initiate the Digital Twin creation process.

Step 2: Name your item

A popup window will appear, prompting you to enter a name for your Digital Twin. Choose a unique name that hasn't been used before. Once you've entered the name, click "Next" to proceed.

Step 3: Select the uploading method

You will now see the "Select uploading method" screen. Choose the appropriate option based on your needs:

a) Optimized digital twin model (.frontline)

b) 3D CAD file (.stp/.fbx/.obj)

Click on the option that best suits your requirements.

Note:
Preservation of materials:
The uploading format that ensures the preservation of material colors are .STEP and .fbx files.

Orientation of the model:

To keep the orientation of the model, inside frontline.io, the CAD file needs to be at a transformation reset (meaning in the CAD software it shouldn't have any rotation values).
If this approach is unsuccessful, it indicates that the XYZ axis system differs from the one in frontline.io. In such cases, the CAD software should be configured to set the Y-up.

Step 4: Continue with the upload process

If you selected the "Optimized" option, the item page and media manager will open, allowing you to select an asset bundle for your Digital Twin.

If you chose the "CAD" option, the item page will open, and you'll find a drag-and-drop area specifically designed for CAD files. Simply drag your CAD file into the designated area. Remember, you can remove or replace the uploaded file before clicking "Submit."

Please note that if the file format is incorrect, an error message will be displayed.

Ensure that your CAD file is in one of the supported formats mentioned above.

Step 5: Submit the file

Once you're ready to proceed, click the "Submit" button to upload your CAD file. After a successful upload, a popup window will confirm that the file has been uploaded successfully.

Please be aware that the Digital Twin will be unpublished at this point, and you won't be able to preview it immediately.

Step 6: Access your unpublished Digital Twin

Once the CAD file is converted into an asset bundle, the item page for your unpublished Digital Twin will become available. You can access it by navigating to the relevant section on frontline.io.

Additionally, you will receive an email notification indicating that your digital twin is ready. This will let you know that the conversion process has been completed.

Note: Please remember that you can only create one Digital Twin at a time. If you wish to create another one, ensure that the previous Digital Twin has been completed and published before starting the next one.

Congratulations! You've successfully learned how to use the Fast Track feature to create your own Digital Twin on frontline.io. Enjoy exploring the possibilities of your digital model and its real-life applications!
