Parts Catalog - A Complete Guide

Introduction

The parts catalog empowers you to precisely locate and identify any component within your digital twin, even down to the tiniest screw.
You can access the parts catalog from the main menu situated on the left side of the screen.
At the bottom of the parts catalog, you'll find a summary displaying both the total number of parts within the digital twin and the count of currently selected parts.
Furthermore, if necessary, you have the option to export the selected parts to an Excel list. This facilitates the sharing of information with your colleagues or customers.

Part Catalog - Features

Navigate between Parts Catalog and CAD assembly
If stored within the metadata of the digital twin, you can seamlessly switch between the parts catalog and the CAD assembly list.
This can be particularly valuable when communicating with technicians who utilize the CAD assembly as a reference to the model.

Tools Menu

The "Tools Menu" in the Parts Catalog (next to the search bar) provides powerful options to refine your workflow and find parts quickly and efficiently. Here's a breakdown of the available tools and how to use them:

1. Search Settings

This option opens a window where you can customize the behavior of the search functionality to suit your needs. It includes:

  • Use Key to Search Multiple Parts (Checkbox):

    • Enable this to specify a key (e.g., comma or space) that separates multiple part names in the search bar.

    • This helps the system recognize when you’re adding multiple part names in one search.

  • Isolate Matching Part (Checkbox):

    • When enabled, this option isolates the part matching your search query, focusing solely on it.

    • If unchecked, the search highlights the part in the list without isolating it, giving you flexibility depending on your workflow.

2. Show Only Spare Parts

  • This feature filters the list to display only the parts marked as spare parts.

  • Note: Spare parts can be modified or assigned in the metadata section of the Digital Twin Editor.

3. Select by Material

  • Opens a menu displaying all the materials assigned to the parts in your Digital Twin.

  • Select a material from the list and click the "Select" button to highlight all parts associated with that material.

4. Find Part by Volume

  • Allows you to filter parts based on their volume.

  • Set a minimum and maximum volume range and click "Select" to highlight parts that fall within the specified range.

Search for Parts

If you possess the name or serial number of the desired part, you can easily locate it using the search bar.

Locate and Hide Parts

Each part is equipped with a magnifying glass icon and an eye icon. The magnifying glass allows you to zoom in on the selected part, while the eye icon enables you to hide it or isolate it (Isolate achieved by Shift+click).

Highlights

Upon clicking a part, whether within the parts catalog or the digital twin itself, a highlight will appear on both the corresponding part in the list and the 3D model. This linkage ensures seamless alignment between the list and the selected 3D model element.

Bonus tool: Find by Similarity

This is a powerful tool that searches for parts similar to the selected one based on the actual Digital Twin creation.
Works similarly to the "Select Instances" feature in 3D Studio.

Accessing the Tool:
1. Right-click on a part in the Parts Catalog.
2. Alternatively, select parts directly in the 3D view and right-click to access the tool.

Conclusion

In short, the Parts Catalog is like a super-search for finding any part in your Digital Twin, no matter how small. Just use the main menu to open it, and you'll see how many parts there are and which ones you've picked. You can even export these choices to Excel if you want to share them. It's an easy way to work with your team or show things to customers while exploring your Digital Twin.
