MR - Getting Started: How to Log In to XR Devices with frontline.io
How to Log In to XR Devices with frontline.io
Overview
When you open the frontline.io app on an XR device, the login screen gives you several ways to sign in. This article walks through all four login options so you can choose the one that suits your setup.
Before You Start
Make sure the following are in place:
- The frontline.io app is installed on your XR device and up to date
- You have an active frontline.io user account — if you don't have one, contact your workspace administrator
- Your device is connected to the internet
New to the app? To install it on HoloLens 2, open the Microsoft Store from the main menu, search for frontline.io, and follow the on-screen steps to download and install. You can also pin the app to your main menu for quicker access.
Launching the App
Tap the frontline.io app on your XR device. A hologram with a play button will appear — tap it to launch. The login window will open, presenting you with the options below.
Login Option 1 — Quick Login with Personal QR Code
Best for: Regular users who want the fastest login with no typing and no second device.
This method uses a personal QR code generated from your frontline.io web account. You set it up once on the web, then use it every time on the AR headset.
Step 1 — Get your personal QR code (web, one-time setup)
- Log in to frontline.io on a desktop or laptop browser
- Go to your Account Settings
- Find the Quick login for AR headsets section
- Your Personal QR code and Personal PIN code are shown here
- Select View and download QR code to save or print it for use at your workstation
Account Settings: View personal login details
Account Settings Page: Quick Login for AR HeadsetsStep 2 — Log in on the AR headset
- Open the frontline.io app on your XR device and tap the play button to launch
- While on the login screen, point the AR headset at your Personal QR code
- When prompted, enter your Personal PIN code
- The device will log you in, and you will be able to select your workspace.
- Select your workspace by hitting Launch
Note: Your Personal QR code and PIN are unique to your account. You can regenerate them at any time from Account Settings — if you do, your previous QR code and PIN will no longer work and you will need to update any printed copies.
Login Option 2 — Login on Another Device (URL + Code)
Best for: Using a computer, or when QR scanning isn't convenient.
This method authenticates the headset on an alternative device and workspace selection is handled remotely.
- Open the frontline.io app on your XR device and tap the play button to launch
- While on the login screen, make note of the code displayed.
- On another internet capable device, navigate to the URL: device-login.frontline.io
- Where prompted, input the code displayed on the headset, followed by your account login credentials, and the workspace you wish to access.
- On confirmation, the XR device will receive authentication and will log you in to the selected workspace automatically.
Note: Codes are time-limited. If the code expires before you finish, restart the app to generate a new one.
Login Option 3 — Auto Login
Best for: Returning users on a regularly used device.
If you have previously logged in on this device, the app may recognise your session and log you in automatically — no action required on the login screen. This happens when your session is still active.
If the device prompts you to log in again after an app update, this is expected behaviour on major version updates. Use any of the options above to re-authenticate.
Switching Workspaces
To switch to a different workspace, you must log out from account settings, then log in to a different workspace following one of the processes above.
Important: Attempting to open content (such as a QR-anchored Digital Twin) while logged into the wrong workspace will display a No Permission message. Log out and log back in to the correct workspace
Troubleshooting
