Digital Twin - Object Target

Digital Twin - Object Target

Introduction

Exciting news! We're introducing a new feature that allows you to create object target for your digital twin directly within the frontline.io app.

Now, advanced content creators can utilize the Digital Twin Editor to establish primary and secondary object targets without relying on third-party software.

Get started

Open the Digital Twin Editor
  1. Open the Digital Twin dashboard (on the web) and click on the Digital Twin editor.

  2. Digital twin editor will open in the frontline.io PC app, and then open the fourth (glasses icon) tab: Object target.

Notes
Note: The Digital Twin editor can be accessed only in the PC app via the Web.

Creating your First Object Target

After clicking in the object target tab, you will see first the Create New button in blue, this will initiate the creation process.

Name And Shape

  1. Name Your Object Target
    1. In the name box, give your object target a descriptive name. This will help you easily identify it later in your project
  2. Select the Shape
    1. The Shape represents the specific area you'll focus on when anchoring in tracking mode. To choose the Shape, simply click on the desired part or parts.
  3. Preview Your Selection
    1. After selecting the Shape, you'll see a thumbnail preview displaying your chosen part. This allows you to confirm your selection visually.
  4. Adjust Distance
    1. Beneath the thumbnail, you'll find a distance slider. Use this to modify the distance between the model and the camera, fine-tuning your object target.

NotesNotes
Note: It's essential to ensure that the selected polygons do not exceed 64K. Higher values can lead to decreased performance.

Targeting Model

The Target model serves as the physical representation for anchoring in the digital world. If you move this part away from its original location and intend to work on it elsewhere, it's crucial to create an object target for it. This is particularly important for the second object target process.

When selecting the target model, you have the option to choose only one part. This part can encompass the entire model, a single subsystem, or even just a small section.
Once you've made your selection and clicked on the "Use selection for target" button, the name of the chosen part will appear in the selected part section. Additionally, you'll observe it added to the thumbnail for visual confirmation.

Notes
Note: When assigning the shape and target, please note that the camera angle will be determined by your point of view at the time of creation. This means that each click will result in a change in angle.

Other Settings

Base Target

  1. This serves as your primary object target for the digital twin. Whenever you initiate an AR/MR experience, this object target will be visible. You can only have one default tracker.

Enable Only in Procedures

  1. By enabling this option, you'll exclusively encounter these animations when executing a procedure. They won't be accessible for use outside of procedures.

Notes
Note: If both boxes remain unchecked, you'll retain the flexibility to utilize them when opening an AR mode on your mobile device without starting a specific procedure. This allows you to create custom object target without assigning them to a specific purpose.

Conclusion

The object target feature in the frontline app empowers content creators to create detailed targets directly within the digital twin editor, eliminating the need for third-party software. By following the above steps, you can enhance your AR/MR experiences efficiently.

This update allows for greater flexibility and customization, enabling you to create immersive and interactive digital twin experiences.
