Channel Portal: Managing Sub-Workspaces and Mirrored Content
Managing Sub-Workspaces and Mirrored Content
Introduction
The sub-workspace structure in frontline.io allows you to organize your teams, content, and customer-facing materials in a flexible, hierarchical way. One of the most powerful aspects of this system is the ability to mirror content—such as 3D Digital Twins and Interactive Flows—from a parent workspace into sub-workspaces. This article explains how mirrored content works, what permissions apply, and what to expect when creating, sharing, and managing mirrored items.
What Is Mirrored Content?
When you mirror content, you are publishing items created in your main workspace—like Digital Twins or Interactive Flows—so they are visible and usable in sub-workspaces. This keeps your knowledge base up to date across your organization.
Any changes made to mirrored content in the parent workspace (for example, unpublishing a Digital Twin or updating part of its configuration) will automatically affect the mirrored version in all sub-workspaces.
Sub-workspace users see content based on their assigned role permissions in the main workspace.
Viewing and Using Mirrored Content
Search and Access:
Sub-workspace members can search for mirrored projects and items in the web and app if their role permits.
Opening Items (Web):
When a user clicks a mirrored item, it opens in a new browser tab—just like content in the parent workspace.
Links:
- Links created in the parent workspace remain valid in sub-workspaces.
- When a sub-workspace user clicks a link, the system routes them to the mirrored version in their workspace automatically.
- If no mirror exists, the user sees a clear message that the content is unavailable.
Content Creation in Sub-Workspaces
(Advanced) Content creators in sub-workspaces can:
- Create their own Interactive Flows using animations created in the main workspace.
Note:
Sub-workspace content creators cannot edit Digital Twins or open the Digital Twin editor.
Any changes made to the original Digital Twin in the parent workspace will automatically update all mirrored copies.
Working with Interactions and Animations
When using mirrored Digital Twins:
- Content creators can attach animations via the Flow Builder in their sub-workspace.
Important Restrictions:
Users cannot drag, drop, or move mirrored animations.
Sub-workspace members cannot re-order or re-organize the hierarchy of mirrored content.
Permissions and Role Inheritance
Permissions from the parent workspace carry over to sub-workspaces:
- Operators in sub-workspaces cannot display Digital Twin items if their role in the parent workspace does not permit it.
- If a role in the original project cannot view an item, the same role in the sub-workspace cannot view it.
- If a user does not have access to mirrored content, the system will display an appropriate message.
Analytics
Session analytics are stored in the workspace where the content was viewed.
If a session happens in a sub-workspace, its analytics are registered there.

Note: In the future, analytics may also be displayed in the original project
Quick Tips
- Mirroring only includes content.
- Permissions remain consistent across mirrored content.
- Sub-workspace content is isolated and won’t display upward to parent workspaces.
